Fuel Subsidy: Corruption is the Elephant in the Room

Following the national debate that the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government generated, the Network for Democracy and Development (NDD), a civil society organisation, embarked on extensive consultation among its stakeholders across the country. The following communiqué which was issued at the end of the consultation represents our position on the new policy. *Observations and Issues of Concern:* 1. The decades-long debate about subsidy in the oil industry took a new twist with the decision of the administration of the former President Muhammadu Buhari to discontinue appropriation for fuel subsidy by the end of June 2023. 2. 10th NASS Leadership: More Protests Trail APC Zoning Formula

The controversy trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) zoning formula for the position of presiding officers of the 10th National Assembly is yet to abate, as youths drawn from the North Central have said the region would not settle for anything less.  The youths, under the aegis of the North Central Youths Stakeholders Forum and North Central Youths Stakeholders Forum and the Middle Belt Forum, specifically said the region would only accept the Senate Presidency and Speakership of the House of Representatives.  In a statement, the Leader of the NCYSF, Mohammed A Mohammed, said the groups were behind the decision reached at the recent meeting held by governors of the region and National Assembly members-elect, not to accept the decision of the party.   A non governmental organization, Secure D Future International Initiative (SDF) has launched it's pioneer program, Mental Health Club in Abuja. According to the organisation, providing students with easy access to information in Mental Health issues has been one of the major preoccupations of Secure D Future International Initiative (SDF). Abia 2023: Ukpai rejects any poster associating him with the LP Presidential candidate.

  The Governorship Candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party, NNPP in Abia State, Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai has rejected in totality the campaign poster associating him with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, saying it was done without his consent and does not in anyway represent his kind of politics.
